Deathspell Omega has been lauded for what seems like ages now however I didn't personally listen to them much at all until after this release, instead preferring to stick to more traditional "orthodox" BM..
Long story short I'm forever grateful to our Dark Lord that I decided to expand my horizons because this as well as every other album in DSO's catalog is an absolute masterpiece and every fan of extreme metal music(not just Black Metal) owes it to themselves to check them out.
The Furnaces of Palingenesia is stunningly innovative how it transforms what appears to be harsh disconnected noise into melodic beauty through weaving indecipherable and indistinguishable dissonant threads together into a tapestry of melodic perfection that checks all the right boxes and can only be described as art. Consequently, you'll discover that every subsequent listen will unearth new layers that you seemingly didn't hear before.
For the best experience, listen alone in a dark room with headphones (preferably light up a fat blunt) and give yourself up wholly to the music. Let the deeply malignant and yet blessedly euphoric aura of dissonance overtake your pathetic soul.
Blessed is he that murders Christ in himself and in his fellow man.
Amen. Matthew Kokinda
A corrosive mix of death, doom, psychedelia, and black metal, the Portland quartet’s debut full-length is a bona fide underground monolith that shapeshifts with each listen, all while maintaining its essential heaviness. Bandcamp Album of the Day Feb 1, 2019
